Patrick Burke has been playing the vibraphone since the early 70's. Having first heard the vibes being played by Milt Jackson of the Modern Jazz Quartet, he was hooked. Playing in the San Diego based group Storm, Patrick began playing the latin jazz music of Cal Tjader. He still plays this style today in his band The Latin Jazz Quintet, which features some of San Diego's top latin players.

Patrick moved to Boston in the mid-70's to study at Berklee College Of Music. The main goal was to study drums with Alan Dawson, whose students included Tony Williams, John Robinson, Terry Lyne Carrington, and John Ramsey. Planning to stay for just the summer, Patrick spent two 1/2 years at Berklee studying with Dave Samuels, Dave Friedman, Tom VanderGeld (vibes) and Gary Burton (arranging), Alan Dawson (drums).

Patrick has made a name for himself by playing at the LA Vibe Summits. These are a yearly event hosted by Mal Sands to honor the vibe greats. Milt Jackson, Gary Burton, Charlie Shoemake, Emil Richards, Larry Bunker, Terry Gibbs, and Dave Pike have all been honered.

Within the last few years Patrick has recorded with Bobby Caldwell and does numerous studio sessions.

Patrick now fronts his own groups, The Jazz Quartet & The Latin Jazz Quintet, which perform shows in the San Diego and Los Angeles area. Check the Calendar for upcoming events and cilck the music page to hear some song clips.
